Through the Eyes of an Athiest
// April 30th, 2007 // Christianity, Ministry
This girl Micki, has my ear. Sure, she has all the modern tools she needs to tell a great, reasonable story, but the simplicity of this video is what makes it compelling to folks who don’t know the difference. Check it out and let us know what you think. How should we respond to this kind of reasoning? How might we engage someone like this in a way that is friendly and isn’t considered hostile? Read some of the comments and you can see others who feel strongly about the topic as well.

wow. It seems evident to me that Micki has been hurt by those who prescribe to “religion”. I think that a posture of apology would be a vital first step of interaction. It would also seem important at some later point to enter into a discussion of “religion” vs. discipleship and although I don’t think this would be a first hundred conversation subject, Micki has her own “religious” beliefs and her arrogance in that system is just as strong as those who have unjustly hurt her. That arrogance makes me defensive, but (and this is difficult) I still think we have no chance of interaction with “Micki” if we will not humbly apologize for the hurts that she has experienced. That might be as far as it gets–to apologize–, but that’s further than before.

Great comment Brett!
One of my “coworkers” has some commentary on Micki as well: http://church-hype.typepad.com/weblog/2007/05/micki_the_athei.html
