Texas Teachers Pack a Pistol

I don’t go a week at work without someone referencing my Texas origin. I think they think I like to talk about it. Sure, it is something I am incredibly proud of, just as any true Texan is. As hard as non-Texans try to get their head around what Texas is really like, they tend to fall back to long persisting stereotypes (some of which are somewhat negative).

My buddy Blake Thompson has been inspiring me to keep blogging since around the time “blog” became a word, and his post of old yearbook pictures made me want to make fun of myself publicly. So, here are some fun photos of me through the decades. Because they look the least doctored, I think my favorites are 1952, 1970, and 1988.

Non-Floridians like myself are generally unprepared for hurricanes the first time. Have no clue what to expect or what to get ready. Well-meaning people try to describe what it is like to live through a hurricane and what preparations need to be made. Short of two emails, these conversations leave me in a fog.

Ironic Hurricane Advertising

Sometimes I see things that make me giggle. Most of the time these things have irony in them. Case in point is this web scenario I saw this morning when looking at the hurricane forecast for West Palm Beach. I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and trust you can find what is wrong with this picture in light of the fact Hurricane Fay is headed our way and may cause flooding.
