Christians Persecuted Even More

In case you haven’t heard, our already corrupt world is filled with acts of hate by Muslims. Not only can we read about a mass rape in the Congo in which 240 dear women were harmed horrifically, now there is this story of Christians being excluded from aid in the flooded areas of Pakistan. In fact, local governments are routing the flood waters away from Muslim landowners and into Christian and lower-class villages without warning. Below are snippets from the story, or read the whole article here: http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/72113

Christians in Pakistan’s flood-hit regions are doubly affected by the disaster as a result of anti-Christian discrimination by government relief workers and Muslim aid agencies, according to representatives of the embattled minority.

According to the Pakistan Christian Congress (PCC), Muslim relief organizations and government agencies have been denying assistance to Christians affected by the flooding in Punjab province.

The PCC organ Pakistan Christian Post described the southern Punjab was a “hotbed” of extremist organizations which view Christians as “infidels.” It said local officials in fear of the radical elements were barring Christians from tent camps for flood victims.

Video on Doing More with Less

During this career transition over the last six months, we’ve had to be super careful and even scale back in some areas. It has always been my opinion though that we Westerners don’t know how great we have it. I live in a 1,500 Sq Ft apartment with four girls, and some people would pity me for that. When I was in Mexico and later in India, I really got a sense for how spoiled we are, so my perspective is that I live in a mansion. Ran across this video a couple of weeks back and I can’t stop thinking about it. It reminds me that creativity and a healthy mindset go along way toward helping us be content in any living situation.

Cleburne Gas Explosion

A gas explosion and subsequent fire today near the town of Cleburne, Texas was heard and see as far as 40 miles away. Our hearts go out to anyone hurt in this tragedy that seems to have started when a crew drilling footings for electrical power-line towers ruptured a 35-inch natural gas supply line.

In the photos below you can see both the fire (shot awhile after the explosion) and also the charred remains of the truck that was doing the drilling. The drilling truck was huge and was flipped upside down thirty or more feet from the explosion and was just obliterated.

One theory is that the cleared-out right-of-way of the Cleburne natural gas line didn’t represent where the gas line actually was. Where they were drilling was on the very edge of the right-of-way and it appears from an overhead view that they should have been safe in drilling there.

5 Ways to Bless Your Children Daily

This week while listening to a Family Life radio show in the car, I was struck again by how fast little girls grow up. With three of my own, and having never had sisters, at times I worry I am doing this dad thing wrong. Is it self-doubt, the lack of a manual, or the very real tension between family time and providing for these daughters that makes me shudder at times with “what-ifs”?

Just do it. That was the theme of a video I posted on AshleyAndJason.com last week that I am taking really seriously. So what does that look like with the kids? It means I have to do this right and allow myself no excuses when giving my babies my all, both at home and at work.

Here are a few things I am reiterating verbally daily with my daughters. Usually these bursts of blessings involves some kind of physical touch, even if it is just tickling. I am labeling this “5 Ways to Bless Your Children Daily”. Tell them:

1. God made you special and unique, and he has a plan just for you sweetheart. And I am so proud to be your dad.

2. I was thinking, I love ______ about you darlin. I also love _______.

3. No growing up little girl (said jokingly). Do you need a spanking for growing up so fast? Did you know no matter how old you get, you’ll always be my little girl and I’ll love you no matter what?

4. Like your sisters, you make me so happy. You are growing up to be such a wonderful young lady and I know you are going to do great things someday.

5. Do you know how much I love you? I love you from the moon to the sun and back again. I love you so much, but can you imagine that I love your mom even more? Well I do!

There’s obviously more to raising daughters than just words, but I also know each blessing I speak over them that they believe is a stored treasure that someday they are going to need. If you have sons, adjust the above accordingly but do it no less frequently or tenderly.

So what am I missing that little girls need to know or hear? Comment and let us know your idea.

On Killing Our President

As soon as I saw it, I wanted to comment on this ridiculous Facebook bit:

Dear Lord,
This year you took my favorite actor, Patrick Swayzie (sic). You took my favorite actress, Farah Fawcett. You took my favorite singer, Michael Jackson. I just wanted to let you know, my favorite president is Barack Obama. Amen.

Problem was, when I read it, I literally got sick at my stomach. I took it as a direct threat on our President and our very nation. As a democracy, we have the right to choose our leader and we chose President Obama. I don’t know that I agree with any of The President’s current policies except his environmental ones. Still, even if we don’t agree with the President we simply MUST respect the office. If we don’t honor the Presidency then we have chaos and our national freedom erodes.

Thankfully, a writer friend of mine found the words I didn’t have over here (click). Here is a preview of what she had to say:

My question is this: How is that different from what John Wilkes Booth wanted? How is that different from what Lee Harvey Oswald wanted? Hundreds of cells of Islamic extremists would cheer with jubilation to see this – or any – American president shot in the street.

Lastly, have you ever noticed how former Presidents reference the sitting President as “The President” or “Mr. President”? Have you noticed how the First Lady of the sitting President always references her husband as “Mr. President” or “The President”? This shows the respect the office deserves. It seems to me that if someone like John McCain can find it fit to honor the office that his political enemy holds after beating him out for the position, we should too.

I also like the history lesson Wikipedia offers:

When George Washington was sworn in as the first President of the United States in 1789, he initially used the style, “His High Mightiness, the President of the United States and Protector of their Liberties,” a title elaborated by the Joint Congressional Committee on titles over the course of a month. Critics charged that it smacked of monarchy. Washington consented to the demands of James Madison and the United States House of Representatives that the title be altered to “Mr. President.”

So, why all the fuss? Because our freedom deserves our honor and not our cynicism. You don’t have to like The President, but you do have to live with him.
