Texas Teachers Pack a Pistol

// August 25th, 2008 // No Comments » // Community, Government, Personal

I don’t go a week at work without someone referencing my Texas origin. I think they think I like to talk about it. Sure, it is something I am incredibly proud of, just as any true Texan is. As hard as non-Texans try to get their head around what Texas is really like, they tend to fall back to long persisting stereotypes (some of which are somewhat negative).

Word is starting to get out a bit that I have resigned my position with Stonebriar Community Church this week and accepted a position with the 30th largest church in the US. We wanted to let all of you know this as early in the process as possible, but also had some details to work out before I could make things official. I have been away from consistent blogging for awhile so that I could get this life decision made.

We don’t yet know the stories of heroism or bravery which happened today at Virginia Tech during the shootings. We may never know. First of all, I am not a gun nut. Yes, I love hunting more than any of my other recreational activities. Still, I only have three guns, all with the function of hunting. I have been shopping for a pistol, but more because I love shooting than because I feel threatened in my home. Even so, I have a loaded shot-gun just waiting for anyone daring enough to bust down my door. That said, Texas’ new gun law rocks, as does this Washington Post Article:

What makes me sick

What makes me sick are oil company executives who justify their criminal profits by saying America has it good compared to other countries and that high fuel prices help curb demand. In the movie Failure to Launch How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days there is a really cute part where the two stars are playing a game that requires one party to determine if the other party is lying or not. If they believe the party to be lying they say B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T. Seriously though, these oil companies are full of liers and I am saying Bullshit (forgive me Lord) right now about this horrific approach of winning our confidence.
